This Saturday 19th July, Dearest Scotland is spreading south and landing smack bang in the big smoke thanks to a workshop hosted on our behalf by designer, Chloe Eunsung Kim. The afternoon session allows an opportunity for London Scots and just about anyone with a connection to, or interest in Scotland beyond the referendum, to come along, chat and write a letter to our future.
We were delighted when Chloe got in touch to say she’d read about our project and was very keen to be an ambassador by sourcing a potential community hub venue in London. After chatting with the facilitators at Team Cally, a local community service based in South Islington around Caledonian Road, they loved the idea and a plan came together.
With the support of venue manager, Anna James, Chloe will be facilitating a Dearest Scotland workshop starting with a short presentation, followed by a chance to share ideas and ponder questions such as What would make you return to Scotland? What do you think Scotland brings to the rest of the UK? and the occasional less serious, but very pertaining notion of Why does it alway rain on me? Once the chat has sparked some fun and debate, participants are welcomed to write or illustrate their future vision of Scotland on one of our letter templates, which starts simply as- Dearest Scotland…
All letters will be gratefully received onto our online catalogue, which we aim to publish in book format after our September 13th deadline. Any of them could also end up being be part of our Scottish Parliament exhibition taking place in early 2015. Our aim, unlike the Independence Referendum, offers London Scots – who don’t have a vote – the chance to still have a say in Scotland’s future, and stay connected to Caledonia regardless of geography…
